Buford is a city that lies in the Hall and Gwinnett counties of Georgia. A major part of this city is in the Gwinnett County. Only a small part lies in Hall County. The city is the suburb within Atlanta metropolitan area. According to the US Census Bureau, the city covers 17.09 square miles. The city is home to 13,392 people. The population density is 784 people per square mile.
Buford city came into being in the early 19th century. This area was previously part of the Cherokee territory. The area was largely inhabited by the Cherokee despite a treaty that was for the establishment of the Gwinnett County legislative. In the late 1820s, the first non-Native Americans moved to this area.
The education system in this city is served by the Buford City School District and students that live on the outskirts of the city are served by the Gwinnett County Public Schools. The Buford City District operates 2 elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The city is governed by a commission Government. Since 1975, the commission chairman is Phillip Beard. Since the incorporation of the city in 1872, a commission of six was established to govern the town.
Buford has also been the birthplace of several athletes and musicians. Many tourist locations, including museums and community centers, are present here. It is also home to the Mall of Georgia, the largest mall in Georgia. Another attractive place in this region is the Lake Lanier Islands.
The climate of Buford is subtropical, but there is constant fluctuation. It can be difficult for people to predict how hot or cold it will be, even for those living here for years.
