The city of Dacula is located in the Gwinnet, an eastern Georgia county. It was previously named after a Seaboard Air Line Railroad Executive, Hoke. It changed to Dacula after the protest of the Post Office Department. There is a four-lane highway that connects Dacula to the southern region. It leads 34 miles east of Athens, 12 miles west of Interstate 85, which leads an additional 25 miles southwest to downtown Atlanta.
According to the US Census Bureau, the city spans over 5 square miles. Dacula has a population of 4,971, with a population density of 994.2 people per square mile.
Dacula is one of the oldest regions in the metropolitan city of Atlanta. The earliest settlers were white immigrants that came to seek refuge the War of 1812. Located in this city is ‘The Elisha Winn House’, which served as the city’s courthouse, and is among the oldest buildings in greater Atlanta.
The city has a robust educational system with the Gwinnett County Public Schools district serving as the primary platform for education for the locals. A Gwinnett County Public Library is also located in the town of Dacula. The Hamilton Mill Neighborhood News and the Gwinnett Daily Post are the only two newspaper companies in the city.
Dacula has attracted many tourists over the years. The downtown area of the city is riddled with trendy and popular fine dining restaurants that cannot be missed. The city is also home to grand parks, some of the most parks in Dacula include ‘Little Mulberry Park’ and the ‘Kids up Dacula’.
The town receives 52 inches of rainfall and only 1 inch of snowfall every year. The summers can be pretty hot in the city – with an average temperature of 82.5 degrees Fahrenheit. It is strongly recommended that you get a reliable air conditioning system. The winters are nice and pleasant, with the average temperature being 59 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is up to you whether or not you install a heat pump.
