Lawrenceville is a suburb of Atlanta. Located in Georgia, the city also serves as the county seat for Gwinnett County. It is located 30 miles away from downtown Atlanta. The neighboring cities are Dacula, Buford, Suwannee, Duluth, Norcross, Lilburn, Grayson and Snellville. According to the US Census Bureau, the city covers 13.5 square miles. The population of Lawrenceville is 30,212. The population density is 2238 people per square mile.
The city of Lawrenceville is among the oldest cities in the metropolitan Atlanta area. It was incorporated by the act of Georgia General Assembly in 1821. This city is named after James Lawrence. During the War, back in 1812, Lawrence was the commander of frigate Chesapeake. The name of Lawrenceville was suggested by William Maltbie who was the first postmaster of the town.
Like other cities in Georgia, Lawrenceville also operates under a mayor-council form of Government. The mayor of this city is Judy Jordan Johnson. Lawrenceville has a prime location and is easily accessible from other cities. The education here is provided by the Gwinnett County Public Schools.
The city of Lawrenceville has been a great tourist attraction. The city’s downtown is a must visit to have an amazing experience of historic sites and various antique landmarks. The most famous sites include the Lawrenceville Female Seminary and the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. The Aurora Theatre is also fabulous as Ghost tours are conducted through a 90-minute walk of the historic downtowns with storytellers accompanying you.
